Happy New Year-10 Years Later

I got a really cool new journal with writing prompts recently and the prompt for today was “Write a letter to yourself 10 years in the future”. Very fitting for New Years Eve, as we wind down not just another year, but another decade. I thought I’d share my answer here since it also sets the scene for what I hope to accomplish in this space in the next year/decade as well.

Happy New Year’s Eve! Another decade has passed. I’m 50 years old with two grown daughters and a son is who is officially a teenager.

What has the last decade taught me? To be kind to myself. To take care of myself. And to put myself first-sometimes.

By doing this I’ve become a better wife, mother, friend and worker. I’ve reached for my dreams and I’ve accomplished some of them.

It hasn’t been easy. There have been challenges. Bad days, weeks, months even. But everyday I showed up and did my best.

I hope the next 10 years bring even more gratitude and knowledge and I spend the next 50 years with as much love as possible.

And that pretty much sums up what I hope to do with this site as well. Use it to continue reaching for my dreams, and building a community. When I first started reading other mothers online, I was relieved to find other women who knew exactly what I was going through. And I realized that they needed me as much as I needed them. We were, and still are a village, trying to raise our children the best way we know how.

On a more practical and personal side, the next year is already shaping up to be one filled with lots of new things, as the wheels have already started turning on several projects that I cannot wait for. I need to update everyone soon, and I will, because there have already been some changes that have taken place. But that will have to wait. For now I have a hot date with my four year old to watch animated movies and eat pizza and ring in an early New Year before his bedtime. Eventually I will also ring in the New Year with Music Man, who is working, because that’s what musicians do.

And because I’m both old and boring, I don’t mind staying home with my boys. But if you do go out, stay safe, have fun and don’t drink and drive. Remember it’s only one night, and tomorrow is a new day, and the start of a new year and new decade. How will you spend the next ten years?
